To ensure you have enough medication to last over the Christmas holidays, please order your prescription by 19th December, this is the last day for ordering.

Offers expertise in medicines and advice on common clinical problems such as coughs and colds and also offer advice on healthy living, for instance smoking cessation.  

 

Opening times vary by pharmacy, but most are open for at least the period of 09.00 - 18.00.

 

Patients who present with minor ailments/conditions (including the following listed below) could be treated quicker and more conveniently through using self care and visiting their pharmacist.

 

Do signpost:

  • Acne - mild
  • Athletes foot 
  • Bites/Stings
  • Blocked nose 
  • Cold 
  • Cold sores/mouth ulcer
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Constipation 
  • Cough/sore throat
  • Diarrhoea
  • Earache 
  • Emergency contraception
  • Fever 
  • Hay fever 
  • Head Lice 
  • Infantile colic
  • Sprain/strain
  • Teething 
  • Threadworms 
  • Thrush
  • Warts/Veruccas

Don't signpost:

  • Acne if topical products haven't worked after 6 weeks
  • Athletes foot if patient is diabetic 
  • Bites/stings if there is an obvious allergic reaction including swelling, tummy cramps, fast heart rate, drowsy, fever, pus
  • Blocked nose if there is no blood, if it has been blocked > 2 weeks or if only one side is blocked
  • Cold if there are no co-morbidities
  • Cold sores/Mouth ulcer if recurring issues
  • Conjunctivitis if there is severe pain, reduced/blurred vision or if sensitive to light 
  • Constipation if severe/ongoing for more than 3 days after OTC advice, weight loss, blood or co-morbidities
  • Cough/Sore throat if unable to swallow, over 2 weeks (or 1 week < 18), voice change, co-morbidities, weak immune system or frequent persistent sore throats
  • Diarrhoea if ongoing, blood, weight loss, persistent.
  • Earache if difficult swallowing, weight loss or voice change
  • Fever with no other symptoms 
  • Other symptoms - not gaining weight
  • Not improving after 4 days - suspect broken - severe pain - bruising
  • Loss of appetite/weight loss
  • Pharmacy treatment hasn't worked > 2 weeks - over 60 - under 16 - pregnant
  • Warts/veruccas on face or genitals
